Evil Genius Catherine Jinks Books
What is it like for a child genius whose thinking so far exceeds his peers that he is forced into being a loner? How to tame and encourage such intelligence? What pranks has Cadel Piggot imagined and carried out from the time he is 7 years old to his 14th year when everything starts falling apart? What's the borderline between pranks and fiendish evil? After carrying out some super-hacking into computers, Cadel is placed under the therapy of Dr. Thaddeus Roth. Only Thaddeus is far from your standard therapist and encourages Cadel in plotting his further learning and deception. Soon Cadel learns he is the son of a madman, though he really doesn't believe that, in jail and begins to communicate with him through technological marvels invented by Dr. Darkkon.
While enjoying this imaginative and exciting period of his life, he starts a dating service online and meets Kay-Lee, a "number" genius. But things begin terrifying at the college he attends at 13, the Axis Institute, composed of the school of deception, the school of organic perversion, and the school of destruction. On first reading this, it might seem amusing but hardly conveys the terror the reader will experience as one by one the almost freakish students start disappearing by explosions, poison, suicide and more. How involved is the faculty, Thaddeus, and Dr. Darkkon? Who is really Cadel's father? And who learns the secret that causes Cadel to become the target of the next devastating act of violence?
How will Cadel deal with Kay-Lee's rejection and is really her own or caused by someone who has tapped into Cadel's private world as part of the plan to destroy him? Who really is Kay-Lee?
This review hardly touches on the riveting strangeness and horror you will encounter in this amazing and furiously plot-driven novel! Computer geeks, rebels, just about any teen who has ever wondered about the world will certainly find Evil Genius one heck of a gripping read! And it would probably make an amazing movie, to boot!

Evil Genius Catherine Jinks Books Reviews
This novel has a great beginning. It has a huge hook, and draws the reader in right away. That said, the book becomes boring soon afterward. This is mostly because of how predictable it is. Almost every event that happens can be foreseen - quite easily! That said, this novel is not a total waste of time. It has certain aspects that are interesting and make the reader continue despite the fact that the book is laid out like a map. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this book, because it can be boring at times. However, there is not much thinking required while reading Evil Genius, and that can be nice for a change! If you are looking for an easy book to take your mind off the events of real life, give this one a try!
My Grandson loves this series of books!
Personally thought it was a cool book.
One of my favorite books!
I fell in love with this series, when I read the first book. Cadel is a sneaky, little genius who just so happens to have a very cute face and a big brain.
I reread Evil Genius in less than a three days, start to finish. I know it's not a huge book, but honestly, I was engrossed in it. I read this book when I was a kid and rediscovered it on my old . Sometimes nostalgia is exactly what you need.
This book is one of my all time favorites. The story and characters are so detailed and intriguing, the ending is satisfying on its own but still sets up the rest of the series nicely and leaves you wanting to know more. I would highly recommend this book, especially if you enjoyed books like Ender's game or Artemis Fowl.
I bought this book knowing almost nothing about it or its author, and unexpectedly found it almost impossible to put down. Of course, I am an adult, and not a "Young Adult", so officially my review shouldn't count, but here it is anyway. I was captivated by the young hero, and enthralled by his experiences with a therapist who teaches him to indulge his own exceptionalism and introduces him to an entire university of narcissistic evil doers. It's almost like Harry Potter enrolled in a Hogwarts of evil. Since I knew little about the book when I began it, I first thought that Cadell Piggot, the young computer genius, might have Asperger's, and be struggling with those obstacles to social development. However, the book never goes down that road. This is a book about self discovery by a growning young genius who just happens to find himself running with the bad guys. And he, and the reader, has a lot of fun while he explores this side of himself, and ultimately begins to develop his own moral compass. I think this series is going to be a smash hit, and probably, soon a major motion picture.
And by the way, some of the reviews have compared this book to Artemis Fowl, so I just thought I'd let other readers know that I am not an Artemis Fan...and that in my opinion the Evil Genius books are much more engrossing and have a lot more to offer. The Harry Potter comparison is more apt, in that in Harry P you discover the art of magic and the fun of boarding school, and in EvilGenius you explore the art of computer technology and evil doing while exploring a bizarre college campus.
The Australian setting is not crucial to the plot, but I expect that in the books to come the location down under may plan a bigger role in setting the scene for this exploration of evil doing.
I have a little bit of trouble deciding what age group of young readers the book is appropriate for. Many characters in the book are completely amoral, and there are discussions of odd viruses and killings that are probably too gruesome for the tweens and possibly even early teens. But older teens and their parents will be glued to the page. Enjoy!
