Don't miss the third chapter of The Fringe - the heart-pounding series dystopian fans are raving about.

When Harper and Celdon escaped to compound 119, they thought they had a chance to start a new life away from Constance. What they found instead was a desolate wasteland ravaged by death. Now they have no choice but to return to their home compound, where things have never been worse.

The drifters are plotting a large-scale attack out on the Fringe, and Jayden is speeding up deployments to secure the perimeter. She's ordered Eli to kill the drifters' leaders - including his estranged older brother. Eli would do anything to protect Owen, but every choice has its consequences. Saving his brother means turning his back on Harper, and keeping the drifters' secret means putting thousands of lives at risk.

Outbreak (Audible Audio Edition) Tarah Benner Michael Goldstrom Saskia Maarleveld Audible Studios Books

This book starts right after Exposure ends. You should read Recon and Exposure before you read Outbreak. You need the background to fully understand a lot that happens in the book.

This is a fantastic book where the action never stops. You go from one action sequence to another. I love Eli's and Harper's story. I couldn't put the book down. There was just never a good place to stop. The way each chapter ended, you had to read the next chapter to find out what happens next. There were so many twist and turns it and it was full of surprises. I bought the ebook this morning, finished it early the same evening and will probably start re-reading it again tonight. I need to re-read it because I was so anxious to see what happens next, I'm sure I skipped over a lot of things.

I like how the author always writes from someone's point of view. It helps to get a better understanding of how the characters think. I would love a chapter from Jayden's point of view to understand her thinking and discover how she ended up being so the way she is. I haven't quite decided if I like Owen or not.

The one thing I didn't like is the cliff hanger at the end. I hate cliff hangers especially if I have to wait months to find out what happens. I wish the next book was available now.

Outbreak (Audible Audio Edition) Tarah Benner Michael Goldstrom Saskia Maarleveld Audible Studios Books Reviews

Obviously you need to read the first two novels in this series for Book 3 to make sense. Read them. Then continue with the series because it is totally worth it.

Harper, Celdon and Eli learn in this novel that there is nowhere to run. They have to stay at 112 and they are going to have to find a way to survive, even with all the villains (new and old) working against them. If you have read the first two, you won't be able to stop until the story ends (at least, I know I can't).

There is repetition. Something bad seems to always happen when they go out in the Fringe. Jayden always tries to use Harper against Eli. But the truth is, that is how the story progresses and that is how I imagine people like Jayden get their way. This is definitely worth the read, especially since it is the bridge between books 2 and 4 (4 being an amazing work by Tarah Benner as well).
Having read Recon and Exposure, one can't help but continue on with the series. The ending of each book is a cliff hanger to say the least. I like the series so far. The Fringe series has a definite feel of Divergent, mixed with the Born series (which is an Awesome series). Harper I truly do not get where she gets her courage or strength. Apparently she is suppose to be very intelligent, but I don't see it in her decisions or thinking process (that is just me). As for Eli, so standard military guy, can't say I see him as hot or a great love interest at all. I love Blaze! I want more of Blaze! It would seem there is WAY more to him than is being explored. Celdron is awesome, gotta love his cocky character. I really like him, probably the most. Jayden, oh good golly, can someone just break her nose, really, anyone? All I picture is the tiny minion that everyone is afraid of,,,,,, get me in a dark tunnel with her, she is done - accident do happen. LOL.... Anyway this is a very good series, I'm enjoying it but I do tend to rush through the LONG DRAWN out fight scenes, in the series- Ugh! Enjoyable over all!
Outbreak is the third book in The Fringe series, and while we get to find out what really happened at Compound 119, we also see that Jayden suddenly doesn't seem to have any teeth--even though Eli still believes she does. She seems almost "nice" compared to her previous behavior. Everybody else is so caught up in what they believe is true that they have a hard time seeing what is really going on. I'm starting to get to the point where I am shouting at the characters 'don't do it!', like when you want to tell the heroine in a slasher movie "don't go in the basement!" when she hears noises--at least not without a better plan. It's like everyone muddles along, making one mistake after another, for all the right reasons, and then boom! I leave you to read it and find out what happens. No spoilers!

I love the series. The writing is impeccable, the science is researched and plausible, but not in any way overwhelming. The world-building doesn't leave you scratching your head trying to keep it all straight. Tarah Benner just lets the characters live out their lives and show you the world they live in and the challenges they face. They are definitely challenged and are forced to grow and gain mental and physical strength.

The only downsides are that the novels are coming too slow and the anticipation is killing me. Surely Tarah can write faster than this! Please hurry with the next installment. And let's get to the denouement, soon. I want to see Jayden get hers in the end.
WOW!!! Best of the series, so far. Continued great descriptions of the environment and physical surroundings such that you have no difficulty envisioning the world Ms. Banner has created. The story flowed smoothly and continues to be full of unexpected twists and turns. Outbreak is the most polished and well put together book in this series. That is why I rated it 4.4. All of the characters have become three dimensional. The chapters continue to be first person, primarily Eli and Harper but occasionally Celdon and Sawyer.

Only one thing nags at me, and has since book 1, the story time line. In all three of the books it is implied that a long period of time has elapsed since Death Storm. However, based on information from all three books, Eli was about 8 or 9 when that occurred and is now in his 20's. This has been nagging at me all along but more since reading Outbreak.

As with the other two previous books, Outbreak ends with a cliff hanger, actually the cliff hanger of all cliff hangers so far! I am running for book 4!
